As you may have noticed from past blogs, we are big advocates on self-care. Life can be overwhelming at instances and it is important to prioritize our health and overall well being.  So, what exactly is self-care? Self-care is an activity that an individual enjoys that improves their mental, emotional, or physical health. It is any activity that makes you take time to take care of yourself. In reality it is a simple concept. It’s important to note that self-care is very personal. It is an activity that a certain individual enjoys. Your self-care activities may differ from your neighbors.

A Self-care activity we recommend you incorporate to your daily routine is meditation. Meditation is a practice that trains one’s mind to be aware. Meditation teaches how to observe your thoughts and feelings in a mindful manner, rather than reacting to them. This practice allows one to develop a healthy sense of perspective by being completely present. Notice, I called meditation practice, that is because it is something you have to practice often. It is not as easy as you might think, especially the first couple of times. As a society, we are used to living a noisy life than being asked to hush the noise can be challenging. However, despite of it being a bit challenging, it is extremely beneficial. Learning to meditate is a skill that can enhance your mental, emotional, and physical health. Here are a list of the benefits of meditation:

  • Reduces Stress
  • Controls Anxiety
  • Promotes Emotional Health
  • Enhances Self- Awareness
  • Lengthen Attention Span
  • May Reduce Age- Related Memory Loss
  • Can Generate Kindness
  • May Help Fight Addictions
  • Improves Sleep

Once your start experiencing the benefits that meditation offers, you’ll understand why it has become so popular. Taking ten minutes of your day to meditate is the essence of self-care.
